Backyard Terrace - 15 gallon Yellow Groove and Rubro Bamboo

This customer loved their first installation of bamboo so much that they decided to further incorporate bamboo onto their newly built backyard terrace. Their first installation is of the bamboo on the left side of the staircase. Here they are fully shielded from their neighbor’s line of sight and leaves an impressionable feel as you climb up and down the steps. The client sought to further add bamboo as a lush green backdrop to their yard and to soften the metal work of the terrace structure for a natural appearance. From the top deck level of the terrace, the client wanted to have a filtered viewpoint through the bamboo while also gaining a bit of shade as it receives direct light/heat from the afternoon sun. The bamboo will fill in in the next few years and the cane heights can be cut and tailored to their preference so their beautiful view can still be enjoyed.

Yoga and Meditation Room - 15 gallon Yellow Groove and Bissetii

The client on this project is a yoga instructor and provides classes for her bed and breakfast guests that stay at her lovely residence. In effort to connect oneself more closely with nature, a bamboo room was the perfect solution for her needs. Bamboo sequesters carbon dioxide about 30% better than a standard set of trees, which leads to an enhanced state of clarity and relaxation as your body and mind breath in the oxygen rich air around you. This bamboo room spans 18 feet in diameter and comfortably fits 3-5 people inside depending on the activity whether you are performing yoga or sharing a seated table with family/friends. This planting looked a bit sparse the first year and it wasn’t until the following spring when the new shoots came up that the room really filled in with lush density. You can have a more immediate screen if you plant bamboo together side by side with no spacing. Here we spaced the plants every 3 feet apart.

Balcony Intrusion - 15 gallon Bissetii and Rubro

This client has neighbors that love to spend their evenings on their balcony which happens to overlook right into their backyard patio. There was a feeling of discomfort overseeing each other rather than enjoying ones own personal space while trying to unwind in the back patio from a long days work. When planting in pure sand we amend the soil with pine shavings and aged horse manure to provide great nutrients and to assist in retaining moisture in the soil. The screen at first will provide a filtered break in visibility from the neighbor's balcony and shielded from having to make eye contact every time they stepped outside. Soon they wont be able to see one another and full privacy will be achieved.

Enhance Living Room Window View - 15 gallon Bissetii

This client was in the process of selling their home and disliked the view from their living room window as it was in direct sight into their neighbor’s home and backyard activities. In effort to boost their home’s attraction, bamboo was sought after to enhance this viewpoint and produce a lush green year-round backdrop. They were unable to comfortably leave their curtains open, as one can feel intruded upon being visibly seen from the outside. Here they desired to have instant privacy so we planted the bamboo plants side by side next to one another with no spacing. Now they enjoy the fresh lighting coming into their living room like they haven’t been able to before. A bamboo screen was a quick solution to an old problem they held.

Planter Boxes

Planter Boxes are a great method of appreciating and utilizing bamboo for shade and privacy needs in hardscape locations. We have added specialized bamboo planters to our line of products that we can custom build to your desired length – up to 10 feet. The planters are made of cedar wood for the side panels, douglas fir for the frame, and pressure treated 2×4 or redwood along the bottom. We line the interior of the planter box with the same root barrier plastic applied in an in ground installation. The root barrier protects the wooden box from the watering moisture and drainage holes are drilled at the bottom of the lining so water does not remain standing in the box. Standing water can rot the plant and kill your bamboo. The whole planter is built to truly last, they are also stained to gain protection from natural weathering to keep it in great shape for more than 10 years!

Custom Planter Box

The planter boxes are custom made to your desired length (up to 10 feet) and we have two different sizes you can go with, either:

• 16.5 inches tall by 19 inches in width
• 24 inches tall by 24 inches in width

Pricing

For just the planter box without bamboo, the prices are as follows:

• 16.5 inch tall planter box is $60 a foot.
• 24 inch tall planter is $80 a foot.

- 5 gallon bamboo plants fit nicely in either a 16.5” or 24” tall planter box.
- 15 gallon bamboo plants will need to be installed in a 24” tall planter box.

This client’s home has a wall of sliding glass doors that beautifully showcased their backyard from the inside but consequently would warm up their home substantially in the summer months. The home received direct light in their living room and kitchen areas. They preferred to utilize bamboo in planters, as they favored the aesthetic of it to an in ground planting. Horse Water Troughs and Pots

Horse watering troughs can make great planters for bamboo as they have good width, depth, and durability for optimal growth. One issue we have encountered with them is the direct sunlight to the water trough in warmer climates. This has proved to be harmful to the bamboo. The roots tend to get cooked, sort of speak, from the metal radiating the heat inside the container. One way to prevent this is to apply a decorative façade along the exterior of the exposed water trough to provide a layer of insulation against the heat. Be sure to drill holes along the floor of the water trough for allowance of good drainage. This customer added wheels to all the containers to easily be able to move them around freely to her desired preferences. Pots are a great way to showcase bamboo and add vibrant color. Certain bamboo varieties do well in pots and can be maintained for years in them with seasonal pruning of older canes. There will come a time when the bamboo root mass will need to be transplanted to a bigger container/pot or be divided in half for it to continue thriving.

Atascadero Zoo

Fun Fact - Charles Paddock Zoo employees visit our farm once a week to cut and take about 100 canes of bissetii bamboo canes to feed the family of red pandas they have. A new grand exhibit was built for the red pandas and we were hired to provide the bamboo for a lush jungle atmosphere. We harvested custom chosen plants for this project. They sought to have taller impressionable bamboo to readily captivate their numerous guests. We can see how drastic of a change the bamboo established for their elevated structures and walkways. This project went from naked structural framing to an enclosed jungle escape that sparks your curiosity to continue moving forward to see what is next to come around each corner.

The Ravine Water Park

This client wanted to create a tropical getaway from the Paso Robles scorching summer heat. The Ravine Water Park was created and we were the perfect fit to establish the sought after ambiance for their venue. Bamboo was utilized along the sides of their staircase leading down into their pools to create a tunnel like effect. Bamboo was also added behind and in between the various cabanas they have to shield from neighbors and sunlight. Throughout the park, bamboo was placed in key places to add color and vibrancy to what otherwise would be dry barren areas.
